WYSIWYG (sometimes)...
Software makes creating a website fairly easy! There are many website editing solutions out there, many of which provide a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) interface which allows the website designer to create a website in “design view”, whilst the web editing software goes ahead and writes the HTML code in the background.
Awesome in theory, but it’s not an exact translation from design to HTML just yet. Websites that are created purely in design mode usually have a whole load of untidy code in the background, and although to the unsuspecting website visitor this might go un-noticed, untidy HTML certainly is something that a search engine can read.
A good understanding of HTML, PHP, CSS and other languages makes for a robust, fast loading and generally tidier website, one which a business owner would be proud to own.
When it comes to HTML, what you see is sometimes not what you get…
